Reverse Spear | Hand-Carved Sculpture by Obianuju Tóth

What you are looking at

A spear is built to move forward, and this one carries two points, one at each end, so that one still faces forward while the other aims at what has already ended. Both have always been there, and a single gold tension line holds it toward the backward point, set once and able to release at any time.

The Ankara fabric binding sections of the shaft carries its own weight, since it's a material tied to inheritance and identity, wrapped here around a weapon built with both directions still intact. The black cord and gold wire hold the tension exactly where it is, fixed for now, until something asks it to release.

The branch itself once stood on a film set built to look like somewhere else entirely, so it has already been one thing pretending to be another. Here, it finally gets to mean exactly what it is, including the point still facing forward and waiting.
